90987 Societal groups and government choices
In this course we’ll help you develop the understanding you need so you can meet NCEA Level 1 Economics Achievement Standard 90987 (Economics 1.5): ‘Demonstrate understanding of a government choice where affected groups have different viewpoints’ (4 credits, version 3). Your teacher will talk to you about the internal assessment task you’ll do once you’re confident with the ideas in this course.
This course is divided into five modules.
1. Scarce resources
In this module you’ll learn how economic decisions are affected by limited means and scarce resources.
2. Different viewpoints
In this module you’ll learn how different values and viewpoints have an impact on both economics and the decisions governments and societal groups make.
3. Options and compromises
In this module you’ll learn how governments and groups make choices on how scarce resources can be used in different ways, including being used in ways that benefit more than one group.
4. Costs, benefits and rankings
In this module you’ll learn how options can be ranked and weighted by considering the costs and benefits of each option or compromise.
5. Making recommendations
In this module you’ll learn how governments and groups can explain and justify the decisions they make.
